UPMC Health Plan, the insurance company subsidiary of the Pittsburgh hospital system UPMC, enjoyed explosive growth in its Medicare Health Plan portfolio called UPMC For Life. UPMC acknowledged growth of 13.6% in 2011 to membership of over 92,000 in their suite of six Medicare health plan products.
For comparison. Highmark, Pennsylvania’s largest health insurer had enrollment of nearly 275,000 when you include enrollees in Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans.
